I like this reading from Joyce today. It is a help for my eating disorder....
Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour. —1 PETER 5:8 AMPC
Satan seeks to push us to extremes at all times. He wants us to be either unaware of him or excessively focused on him. He wants us to be unaware of our faults or obsessed with them. Once you become aware of a sin or fault in your life, confess it to the Lord, repent, and ask for His help to overcome it.
Don’t focus on what is wrong with you, because in Christ, there is more right with you than there is wrong. If you focus only on your faults, you may begin to think you do nothing right and fall into condemnation, and that is not God’s will. We see extremes in all kinds of practical situations of everyday life. One person may work too hard and not get enough rest, which leads to all kinds of problems, while another may not work enough and sink into passivity and laziness. Some people spend too much money and go into debt, while others become miserly and are unwilling to spend when they need to.
Maintaining balance can be quite difficult, because our fleshly tendency is to think that if a little of something is good, a lot of it should be better. But this is not always the case. Eating a little dessert occasionally is tasty and enjoyable, but eating it excessively adds unwanted pounds and can make us lethargic. The only way to maintain balance is to regularly examine your life in the light of God’s Word. If anything is out of balance, seek God’s help in restoring it to its proper place.
“Father, forgive me for being extreme at times. Help me to always maintain a perfect balance in my life, doing enough of everything but never too much of anything. Thank You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
